Appliences, Tubs, Fixtures. . . When's the best time to get an alarm?

Just today, I saw another case of a home that was being renovated get burglarized. it happen during the weekend time, and not a single person saw what happen. Just have taken a few hours too, as they took EVERYTHING, appliances, plumbing fixtures. . . it was ALL GONE!!

The owner actually was planning on getting a home security system, but figured he'd do it after he moves back into the house.

In the minds of burglars, when a home is getting built, or renovated, that is the BEST time to break in! Think about it.
- The house his empty
- Many things are still in the packaging, brand new ready to go
- Doors and windows maybe old and unsecured
- Neighbors won't question anything as they don't know the new owners, and if they see people taking stuff into/out of the house, they'll just assume it's the contractors, especially if it's done in the day time!

What can you do?

Get your home monitored with a security system BEFORE you move in,
and before you leave ANY thing of value in the house!

With new systems, you do not need a phone line, and the company that installed it should be willing to come back after you move in to finalize the system to your needs.

Another thing to note. Check your insurance policy BEFORE doing big remodel jobs like this. The owner I spoke with today, mentioned the insurance company does not want to pay the claim, as the rule is that you have to move into the house before 30 days after closing! The insurance was paid for, and the agent knew he was remodeling, but how they bring this up! If you want to know who the insurance company is, to avoid them, contact me personally.

Anyway, let's all work together to make the lives of the criminals as difficult as possible.

Garage Door Openers and Car Registration Info. . .

What's the easiest way to get into a house?

Right through the Garage Door with the remote
opener!

This happen a while ago, and here is what happen.

My friends were at Church. At the end of the service,
they went to their car, and saw that it was broken
into. So they called the police to file a report.

No big deal they thought. As the couple drove separate,
the wife arrived home first. She noticed a few things
strange, like the dogs were outside, instead of inside the house.
Maybe her husband arrived first.

She got to the master bedroom, and it was a mess,
stuff everywhere!!

Typical men!

But no, she soon realized that they were burglarized!
What happen?

The people that broke into the car at the Church, knew
the people would be at the service till the end, so they
had time.

They took the Garage Door Opener, and Registration
info from the car and went right to the house. Opened
the Garage Door, parked the car and had about
an hour. There were a couple of dogs in the house,
but the burglars quickly locked them up outside the house.

They loaded up the car in the garage, left with in
an hour and were gone.

This happen in broad daylight, and in fact one of the
neighbors even saw a strange car drive into their garage.
As she was running to the airport, she didn't have the time
to check, and just assumed there was nothing wrong.
Stuff like this happens all the time!!

What can we learn from this example?

1 - Do NOT leave your Garage Door opener remote in the
car. If you HAVE to, at least keep it hidden.

2 - Keep your Car Registration hidden, not in the usual spot,
the glove box. Some ideas, a purse, under the seat,
in the trunk. . .

If you have any questions, or comments and suggestions,
please feel free to leave them, or email me.

How Easy is it to Break Through a Door?

Pretty easy on most doors!

No matter how strong your locks are, it is the door frame that is the weak link!
The door frame is made out of the same White Pine wood as the rest of the house, and it is not very strong.

As you can see in the pictures below, the lock wasn't picked, or "bumped!"  The lock didn't even break, but with just one shoulder, the door frame broke letting the door open!

So, the story behind these pictures?  This happen in an office building.  One of the owners locked his keys in this room!  He didn't have the much time on his hands, so he just used his shoulder, and a little body weight and got right in!

Moral of the story:  It doesn't matter how strong your locks, and or dead bolts are, the weak link is the door frame!

Even the Kitchen Sink!!!

Well, not exactly, but I've talked
to a couple people recently, where
people broke into their home, and stole
stuff like appliances, cabinets,
copper pipes and more!

What is happening?

Well, these homes were vacant, people
just moved out, or remodeling. . .

People assume, as the home is empty,
no one will break in, but that is NOT
the case these days!!

Burglars will take ANYTHING, if it
is EASY to get to!

And vacant homes are one of the easiest!

Why?

There is no one at home!

And if the burglars pull up with a moving
van, middle of day light, the neighbors don't
suspect a thing, they just assume someone
is moving in!

I talked one neighbor that saw it happen,
but didn't think anything was out of the
ordinary.

Later he found out, the people in the moving
van were burglars, and they stripped the house
of all appliances, nice cabinets, and even some
copper pipes!! Ok, the kitchen sink was left there,
but that was about it!

Moral of the story?

Even if you home is empty, there are STILL
valuable things inside that other people would
love to get their hands on, even if it's
just copper pipes!!
