Lock bumping has been talked about in the media in the past. Is it really a threat? Personally, I'd say not as bad as they make it seem. I've personally talked to about 30 people that have been burglarized, and none of them have had their locks "bumped!"
Most of the time, the burglars break in through the back sliding door. This is one of the easiest ways, as it is pretty easy to lift the door off the track, or bend the frame a little to unlock the lock. Plus, if your back yard is surrounded by some sort of fence, chances are no one will see.
Other common ways, just kicking the door in, going through an unlocked door, kicking in a plexi-glass window, breaking the glass on a door and reaching in and unlocking the door or using an automatic garage door opener. Only once have I heard of anyone breaking in through a window.
Here is a video of a local news program talking about "lock bumping." Looks VERY easy to do, but you have to carry around all the different keys for the different locks people have.
And I just talked to a lock smith today that said you CAN tell if a lock has been bumped. Normally the lock is damaged afterwards, and you will be able to use any of the same manufacture keys to unlock the lock.
If you have any experience with lock bumping, or have had your locks bumped, please let me know

Hello beachdude,
Thanks for the link to the site about Lock Bumping.
One of the best ways of stopping crime is educating the public about what is going on.
Thanks for helping us on this mission!
